Story/Concept: (5/10) Yet another tale of the super natural kind from a comic I have read recently it must be the new comic trend like zombie and vampires. That being said not a bad story but again I think the whole super natural or occult theme is being over used right now in comics and it kind of makes me sad that more intelligent or creative concept or stories ideas are not being explored.
Writing: (6.5/10) The writing comes across as a mixed bag for me in this issue, J.T. Krul does a great job in my opinion with the characterization, but the story telling falls short. The comic starts dropping you right in middle of a fight with not much explanation of what happened before or during to set the scene enough to make it accessible for a new reader. Krul’s strength really shines through with his treatment of the characters and their relationship to one another, which is all so important in a book like Teen Titans. Nice touches like the interaction between Damian and Ravenger as well as the ongoing Dawson Creek like love story between Wonder Girl and Superboy it just draws you in immediately to the book despite the missteps in handling the overall action part of the story.
Art: (7/10) Nicola Scott is a good artist and I just love seeing her work on an ongoing series. I have enjoyed her work and as always she delivers the goods. A nice smooth and clean line coupled with good story telling helped make problems I encountered with the writing more palatable. The action was handled well and is very dynamic as well as ultra detailed Scott really connected and engaged me with the visuals on the book.
Cover: (5/10) I was pretty under whelmed by the cover for this issue just really a standard cover for the most part.
Overall: (6/10) First and foremost I think this is a solid book but maybe not the first one I would run out and get every month. But what this issue did do is spark my interest enough to pick up at least one trade of the series that is under J.T. Krul guidance so I can give it a better assessment.
Bottom Line: If you are a big Teen Titans fan give it a try, but for anyone else I can’t recommend this enough to tell you to run out and buy despite it being what I consider it being a solid book. It is something worth reading but not a must buy book for me.
